Product Description

1. Product Introduction

In the demanding world of high-pressure hydraulics and gas lines, a standard straight thread simply cannot provide a safe seal. Our NPT (National Pipe Taper) Tap Set is engineered to create the industry-standard 1:16 taper.

This unique geometry ensures a "wedging" effect during assembly, creating a high-integrity, metal-to-metal interference fit. Whether you are cleaning oxidized threads or cutting new ports in heavy-duty pipe fittings, this set is the gold standard for North American plumbing and international MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Operations).

3. Primary Product Applications

Our NPT set is a staple across various specialized industries due to its superior sealing capabilities:

  • Automotive Industry: Used for cleaning and repairing fuel rail ports, brake line fittings, oil pressure sensor housings, and turbocharger cooling lines.

  • Hydraulic & Pneumatic Systems: Essential for maintaining leak-free connections on tractors, heavy excavators, high-pressure air compressors, and pneumatic solenoid valves.

  • HVAC & Plumbing: Perfect for threading black iron gas pipes, brass water fittings, and industrial boiler components to American NPT standards.

  • Oil & Gas MRO: Specifically designed for field repairs of pipe connectors where localized high-pressure sealing is mandatory.

4. Key Product Advantages

  • Precision 60° Profile: All threads are precision-ground to a 60-degree flank angle, ensuring maximum thread engagement and load distribution.

  • Industrial-Grade HSS: Manufactured from premium High-Speed Steel and vacuum-hardened to 62-65 HRC. These tools cut through cast iron, stainless steel, and tough alloys without losing their edge.

  • Efficient Chip Evacuation: Deep, micro-polished flutes allow for rapid removal of chips, preventing "cold welding" and seizing in the hole.

  • Pro-Series Storage Case: Includes an impact-resistant, high-visibility orange case to protect the precision edges from environmental damage and workshop wear.

5. FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Q: Why does the tapping force increase as I go deeper?

A: This is a result of the tapered geometry. As you advance, the tap diameter increases, engaging a larger surface area of the workpiece. This "interference" is exactly what creates the seal. Always use high-quality tapping lubricant.

Q: Can I use NPT taps on BSPT (British) fittings?

A: No. While both are tapered, NPT has a 60° thread angle and BSPT has a 55° angle. Mixing them will result in cross-threading and catastrophic leaks.

Q: What is the correct "Tapping Depth" for NPT?

A: Depth is critical. You should tap until the "Hand Tight Engagement" point is reached—typically when about 4–5 threads of the tap remain visible above the surface. Tapping all the way to the shank will make the hole too large to seal.
