Our DIN 371/376 HSS-E M35 TiCN Coated Spiral Point Machine Taps (also known as "Gun Taps") are engineered for the most demanding through-hole threading environments. By combining a 5% Cobalt (M35) substrate with an advanced Titanium Carbo-Nitride (TiCN) PVD coating, these taps achieve a surface hardness of approximately 3000 HV.
The specialized Spiral Point geometry at the cutting face continuously pushes chips forward and out through the bottom of the hole. This design, reinforced by the ultra-hard TiCN layer, allows for significantly higher cutting speeds and longer tool life in abrasive and high-tensile materials.

Extreme Surface Hardness: TiCN is significantly harder than TiN (2300 HV vs 3000 HV). This extra hardness is essential for resisting abrasive wear when tapping high-alloy steels (>800 N/mm²).
Low Coefficient of Friction: The carbon content in the TiCN layer provides superior lubricity, reducing torque during high-speed operation and preventing "chip welding" or galling.
Thermal Stability: While TiN is excellent, TiCN offers better edge strength in interrupted cuts and high-torque applications, ensuring the cutting edge stays sharper for longer.
Hardened & Alloy Steels: Exceptional performance in materials with tensile strengths up to 1200 N/mm².
Stainless Steel & Inox: Ideal for 304 and 316 grades where the "sticky" nature of the metal often leads to premature tool failure.
Abrasive Castings: The hard TiCN "armor" resists the abrasive particles found in gray cast iron and ductile iron.
Through-Hole Excellence: Specifically designed for any through-hole application where chips must be cleared forward to prevent clogging.
HSS-M35 Cobalt Substrate: Genuine 5% Cobalt content ensures the core remains tough and flexible enough to handle high-speed CNC cycles.
Fully Ground Construction: Every tap is CNC-ground from solid hardened blanks to maintain 6H Tolerance and superior concentricity.
PVD Coating Precision: Advanced physical vapor deposition ensures a uniform, thin TiCN layer that enhances performance without rounding the cutting edges.
Q: When should I choose TiCN over TiN for Spiral Point taps?
A: Recommend TiCN when your customers are working with harder steels or highly abrasive materials. It offers significantly better wear resistance and a lower friction coefficient for high-speed CNC tapping.
Q: Why the difference between DIN 371 and DIN 376?
A: DIN 371 (M2-M10) features a Reinforced Shank for maximum rigidity in small-hole tapping. DIN 376 (M12-M42) features a Reduced Shank, allowing for deeper tapping without shank interference.
Q: Do you support OEM branding for global distributors?
A: Yes. Since 1997, we have provided high-definition Laser Marking on shanks (Logo + Size + HSSE + TiCN) and customized packaging in shockproof Rose-Boxes for B2B brands worldwide.
